The Concordia German Language School has been in existence for close to 50 years.  Here are a few of the highlights of our long history.

1965

Four German church schools join to form one parochial school without religious affiliation.  The Principal, Peter Wiese, was able to hold classes at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate as he was a teacher there at the same time.

1967

When Peter Wiese went to teach at Margaret Avenue Public School, he was able to negotiate holding classes there on Saturday mornings.

1971

The Parent Association reached a sponsorship agreement with the Concordia Club which resulted in the creation of the new name for the school:  The Concordia German Language School.

1973

The Ontario Ministry of Education approved the amalgamation of the Concordia German Language School with the Waterloo County Board of Education.

1974

The Waterloo County Board of Education furnishes two facilities to accommodate the number of students attending the Concordia German Language School.  Crestview Public School is the new site for students from JK to Grade 5, Grand River Collegiate Institute the new site for students from Grade 6 to 12 and Adult Classes.

1978

The Concordia German Language School enrollment reaches over 800 students.

1979

Monika Matthaes assumes the position of Supervisor of the Concordia German Language School at Crestview and Grand River Collegiate.

2001

The role of Supervisor of the Concordia German Language School is split into two Assistant Supervisors to provide each school site with a supervisor.  The Waterloo County Board of Education accepts the creation of the position of “Schulleiter” to act as Principal for the entire German School.

2002

Monika Matthaes is appointed Assistant Supervisor at Grand River Collegiate and Schulleiter of the whole school.  Andrea Emrich is appointed Assistant Supervisor at Crestview Public School.

2005

Gerhard Griebenow assumes the responsibilities as Assistant Supervisor at Crestview Public School and as Konrektor of the Concordia German Language School.  Monika Matthaes continues in both her roles.

2006

Monika Matthaes resigns her position as Schulleiter and Assistant Supervisor, two responsibilities that Gerhard Greibenow now takes on.  Phillip Sallewsky assumes the responsibilities as Assistant Supervisor at Crestview Public School and as Konrektor of the Concordia German Language School.

2013

The two German School sites are amalgamated into one, with the entire school now being housed at Grand River Collegiate.  Gerhard Griebenow resigns his position as Schulleiter and Assistant Supervisor.  Phillip Sallwesky assumes the role as Schulleiter and Assistant Supervisor of the entire Concordia German Language School.
